Tonight, I had the privilege of meeting former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback and CFL Grey Cup champion J.C. Watts. I represented my alma mater Baylor University to the fullest, and J.C. was enthusiastic to talk about football when he found out that we are fellow college football letter winners.
J.C. shared a little known fun fact with me tonight. After J.C. retired from the Canadian Football League in 1986, Head Coach Grant Teaff of Baylor University offered J.C. a position on his staff as Quarterbacks Coach. J.C. strongly considered the offer and came extremely close to becoming a Baylor Bear, but he turned it down and ended up getting elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Not too long ago, Coach Teaff said to J.C. that if he made the right decision back then, he would be a Head Coach of an NCAA Division I-A program right now!
We are both looking forward to a great game between #12 Oklahoma and #6 Baylor this Saturday night in a nationally televised game with National Championship aspirations on the line. Sic ’em Bears.
