The high school football season has concluded for us. The wins were nice and game days are always the quintessential, unifying, and celebratory All-American experience. However, the most memorable moment of the 2015 journey on the gridiron was when one of my seniors approached me and said with meaning, “Coach Tran, teach me how to be just like you when I grow up.”
Football is an indelible part of me since birth and winning a championship has been the goal from day one, but if I can teach student-athletes to work diligently, give to others, honor women, and represent themselves and their communities with integrity and dignity, that is a championship ring in and of itself.
This is why I coach football.
