I have a new high school football coaching job. Early this week, I signed with James Hubert Blake High School located near Olney, MD. (Mini History Lesson: James Hubert Blake was a famous jazz musician from Baltimore. Eubie Blake’s work was featured in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical celebrating black culture during the interwar period entitled “Black and Blue.” Our school colors are, appropriately, black and blue.)
I will be working under Head Coach Deshawn Anderson, who played college football at Norfolk State. I will also be reunited with Offensive Coordinator Dennis Harris, who played college football at Virginia Union and gave me my first high school football coaching job in the great State of Maryland.
Once again, I will be the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the football program. On the field, I will be working at the varsity level as the Running Backs Coach and in a brand new role as Special Teams Coordinator. This is an upward move for me.
Thanks to the West Springfield Spartans (Springfield, VA), Thomas Jefferson Colonials (Alexandria, VA), and Northwood Gladiators (Silver Spring, MD) for allowing me the opportunity to coach some great athletes, work with excellent colleagues, develop as a coach, and refine my leadership abilities. I continue to maintain positive relationships with the players, coaches, athletic trainers, chaplains, and parents with whom I interacted every step of the way. I had some memorable times playing and coaching this game and that will certainly continue with Blake High School. Go Bengals!
As always, Sic ‘em Bears!
