On Saturday night, we played the 102nd edition of the Gilman-McDonogh game, which is Maryland’s high school equivalent of the Harvard-Yale game. We upset #4 McDonogh to secure the #2 seed in the playoffs and win back the McDonogh-Gilman Trophy.
The victory is ours and we now proceed to the playoffs to pursue the championship. For me, though I have for most of my life chased the elusive championship ring as a HS/college football player and HS football coach with the utmost zeal, truly the bigger victory is that I get to spend at least another week with the best athletes on the field, sharing life and laughter, mentoring them through a formative time, building them up physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, and creating indelible memories.
A huge bonus was that the elite female swimmers I coach from the Mariner Swim Club attended the game and cheered for me loudly in the stands. I feel adored. I am very honored.
Praise Jesus Christ. I am grateful for all my athletes. They inspire me as much as I inspire them. I am having the time of my life. <><
