Last night, we had our first preseason scrimmage at home under the lights. It may be a Tuesday preseason game, but my Friday night game day fit is in midseason form.
I also literally cried tears of joy when the lights came on. Growing up in Texas, my religious upbringing taught me that Friday nights are sacred and are to be reserved exclusively for high school football from August through December. I enjoyed every single coaching stop in my career, but going through a recent season of Saturday afternoon high school football games elsewhere due to neighborhood opposition to lights was very difficult and that was well known to my old players for whom I have great appreciation. I am never taking lights for granted ever again. Life is too short to not play high school football on Friday nights under the lights.
