Private high school football got cancelled in Maryland due to a 25-person outdoor limit imposed by state and local officials. Yet, NFL practices and games still take place in the same state at this time.
Either everyone plays or everyone gets cancelled.
Most people, myself included, do take the pandemic seriously and are willing to make significant sacrifices for the good of the country if restrictions were just, fair, and equitable. The undeniable double standard seen here between the haves and the have-nots under the current regulations is why we see so much doubt, disagreement, dissension, discord, and disunity in America today.
The NFL plays the same game on the same field dimensions as high school kids do. NFL games often have much more people confined in the same space compared to high school football games. Thirty-five states have figured out how to safely play fall high school sports in the fall.
Yet, high school kids in fifteen states plus DC are being burglarized of their childhood while millionaire NFL athletes and billionaire NFL owners make money and are close to completing the regular season.
Washington (SEA), California (SF*, LAR, LAC), Nevada (LV), Illinois (CHI), North Carolina (CAR), Virginia (WSH practice facility), Maryland (BAL, WSH), New York (BUF only…NYG and NYJ are in NJ), and Massachusetts (NE) are all states where NFL practices and games are allowed, but government officials have cancelled high school sports. Apparently, if you are rich, you play by a different set of rules.
Either everyone plays or everyone gets cancelled.
The fact that high school sports get cancelled, but NFL games do not, says much about what these politicians$$$ truly value. Indeed, there are two Americas. There is an America for the privileged and there is an America for the peons.
I will fight for the kids. If millionaires are allowed to entertain the masses and make money for themselves and their billionaire owners, surely kids, especially those of low income and high risk, can participate in their favorite school activities to learn, grow, exercise, compete, and make lasting, inspirational childhood memories.
I respect those who disagree, but hold a consistent viewpoint that is; if high school football must be cancelled, NFL football must be cancelled as well.* I don’t think those who disagree holding a consistent viewpoint have any malice.
However, the inconsistent, discriminatory application of the law that involves the picking and choosing of winners and losers, especially when the winners are privileged and the losers are not, is why we see so much doubt, disagreement, dissension, discord, and disunity on the coronavirus response that should otherwise unite all Americans.
Either everyone plays or everyone gets cancelled. I say let everyone play.
My opinions are my own and are not influenced by anyone else nor do they represent anyone else’s opinion; not that my opinions matter anyway.*
Addendum: The latest Santa Clara County, CA decision to ban all contact sports did not exempt the 49ers and forced them to relocate to Arizona for the duration of the ban. This is a fair application of the law that does not give special treatment to wealth and privilege. I respect that, though I strongly disagree with the law itself.
